Mich?  Ich komme von beidem zur\u00fcck!<span class=\"s1\">Hi, welcome to my blog \u2013 hopefully it will be inspiring to those of you coming back from an accident or injury.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Me?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m coming back from both!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Zun\u00e4chst ein paar Hintergrundinformationen \u2026<span class=\"s1\">First off, a little bit of background\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ich gehe davon aus, dass ich als mittleren Alters (46) eingestuft werde, verheiratet bin und \u00e4ltere Kinder im Teenageralter habe. Ich bin ziemlich fit \u2013 zumindest war ich es \u2013 und in normalen Zeiten w\u00fcrde ich ungef\u00e4hr f\u00fcnfmal pro Woche Sport treiben und t\u00e4glich 6\u20137 Meilen laufen. Ich habe auch einen ziemlich ruhigen Job als Grafikdesigner, also sitze ich VIEL an meinem Schreibtisch!<span class=\"s1\">I suppose I\u2019m classed as middle aged (46), married with older teenage children. I\u2019m fairly fit &#8211; or I was &#8211; and, in normal times, I\u2019d exercise around five times a week and walk 6-7 miles a day. I also have a fairly sedate job as a graphic designer so am sitting at my desk A LOT!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Im Jahr 2006 war ich ein begeisterter Netballspieler \u2013 bis ich mir die linke Kniescheibe ausgerenkt habe.  13 Jahre sp\u00e4ter, 2 komplette Marathons, 7 Halbmarathons, kilometerlanges Training, die Entscheidung, einen Cocker Spaniel zu kaufen und viele Verrenkungen und Schmerzen sp\u00e4ter \u2013 endlich wurde ich f\u00fcr M\u00e4rz 2020 operiert, um sie zu korrigieren.<span class=\"s1\">Back in 2006 I was a keen netballer \u2013 right until I dislocated my left knee cap.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Fast forward 13 years, 2 full marathons, 7 half marathons, miles and miles of training, a decision to purchase a cocker spaniel and many dislocations and pain later \u2013 I finally got my operation to correct it scheduled for March 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Im Vorfeld meiner Operation wurde ich jedoch in einen Stau am Heck meines Autos verwickelt, was zu einem Schleudertrauma und Verletzungen im unteren R\u00fcckenbereich f\u00fchrte.  Das bedeutete sofort ein Ende aller Trainingseinheiten im Fitnessstudio, meines Hundespaziergangs und, was noch wichtiger ist, meiner geliebten Indoor-Cycling-Sessions. Dann, gerade als ich das Gef\u00fchl hatte, dass ich nach dem Autounfall wieder in den Sattel steigen k\u00f6nnte \u2013 ich wollte vor der Operation die Muskeln in meinen Oberschenkeln aufbauen \u2013 kam der Lockdown, die Schlie\u00dfung der Fitnessstudios und die Absage meiner Operation!<span class=\"s1\">However, in the run up to my operation, I was involved in a rear end shunt to my car, resulting in whiplash and lower back injuries.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This immediately put a stop to any gym sessions, my dog walking and, more importantly, my beloved indoor cycling sessions. Then, just as I was beginning to feel like I could get back in the saddle after the car accident &#8211; I wanted to build up the muscles in my thighs before the op &#8211;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>lockdown hit, closing the gyms and cancelling my operation!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Den ganzen Sommer \u00fcber humpelte ich weiter, ging mit dem Hund spazieren und versuchte, mich fit zu halten (ich bin definitiv KEIN Outdoor-Radfahrer, also kam das nicht in Frage) und musste einfach warten, bis meine Knieoperation verschoben wurde.   Der Juli kam und ich erhielt den Anruf, dass die Operation am 4. August wieder stattfinden w\u00fcrde. Aber nach einer erneuten Auswertung meiner R\u00f6ntgenaufnahmen und Scans kamen sie zu dem Schluss, dass ich statt einer relativ einfachen Arthroskopie nun eine Operation zur Neuausrichtung des Knies \u2013 eine Tibiatuberkel-Osteotomie \u2013 brauchte, da meine Kniescheibe nicht mehr dort sa\u00df, wo sie in meinem Bein sein sollte.<span class=\"s1\">Hobbling on through the summer, walking the dog and trying to keep myself fit (I\u2019m most definitely NOT an outdoor cyclist so this was off the cards), I just had to sit and wait for my knee operation to be rescheduled. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>July came and I received the call that the operation was back on for 4<\/span><span class=\"s1\">August. But on re-evaluation of my x-rays and scans, they decided that rather than a relatively straightforward arthroscopy, I now needed knee re-alignment surgery \u2013 a Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy \u2013 as my knee cap was no longer sitting where it should be in my leg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Bei diesem Eingriff muss ich den oberen Teil meines Schienbeins brechen, ihn hin und her bewegen, um die Sehne zu bewegen, die dann die Kniescheibe wieder an ihren Platz ziehen w\u00fcrde, und sie mit Schrauben befestigen.  Dar\u00fcber hinaus hatte ich auch eine teilweise Rekonstruktion des medialen patellofemoralen Bandes, was im Wesentlichen bedeutet, dass das Band an der Unterseite meines Oberschenkels nach vorne gezogen wurde, um die Kniescheibe dort zu halten, wo sie hingeh\u00f6rt, da sich das Band im Laufe der Zeit gedehnt hatte, um der schiefen Position der Kniescheibe Rechnung zu tragen.<span class=\"s1\">This procedure involves breaking the top part of my shin, moving it across and down to move the tendon that would then pull the kneecap back into place, and fixing it with screws.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Along with this, I also had a partial m<\/span><span class=\"s3\">edial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction, which basically means they pulled the ligament at the bottom of my thigh over to hold the kneecap in place where it belongs as, over time, the ligament had stretched to accommodate the wonky position of the knee cap. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ja, es ist alles so abscheulich, wie es klingt!<span class=\"s3\">Ye<\/span><span class=\"s1\">s, it\u2019s all as vile as it sounds!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ich wurde mit einer vollst\u00e4ndigen Beinschiene aus dem Krankenhaus entlassen, die, da ich nicht mit Elle-McPherson-Beinen ausgestattet bin, von der H\u00fcfte bis zum Kn\u00f6chel reichte, in einer geraden Position arretiert war und auf Kr\u00fccken ging.<span class=\"s1\">I was discharged from hospital in a full leg brace which, given I\u2019m not gifted with Elle McPherson legs, stretched from hip to ankle, locked in a straight position and crutches.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ich habe noch nie solche Schmerzen gesp\u00fcrt!  Ohne Schmerztabletten verbrachte ich die meiste Zeit der ersten Woche zu Hause weinend und schlafend \u2013 ohne zu wissen, ob ich jemals wieder mein Bein beugen w\u00fcrde, geschweige denn wieder auf ein Fahrrad steigen w\u00fcrde. Aber nach einer Woche des Weinens und des Selbstmitleids wurde mir klar, dass ich selbst der beste Mensch war, der mir helfen konnte!<span class=\"s1\">I\u2019ve never felt pain like it!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Off my head on painkillers, I spent most of the first week home crying and sleeping \u2013 never knowing if I\u2019d ever bend my leg again, let alone get back on a bike. B<\/span><span class=\"s1\">ut after a week of crying and feeling sorry for myself, I got my head around the fact that the best person to help me was myself!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Die Ermutigung, sich hinzulegen und den Fu\u00df im Bett hoch und runter zu ziehen, um das Knie zu beugen, ist seelenzerst\u00f6rend \u2013 stellen Sie sich vor, Sie h\u00e4tten in den letzten 12 Jahren an Indoor-Cycling- und Marathonl\u00e4ufen teilgenommen und Ihr Bein nur bis zu 10 Grad beugen k\u00f6nnen \u2026 Ich h\u00e4tte keine Sekunde gedacht, dass ich innerhalb von 6 Monaten wieder auf dem Fahrrad sitzen w\u00fcrde \u2013 und da ich mich auch nicht richtig hinlegen konnte, wegen der l\u00e4stigen Beinst\u00fctze (die ich 24 Stunden am Tag tragen musste!), meiner R\u00fcckenverletzung durch das Auto Auch der Unfall spielte eine Rolle \u2013 Gott sei Dank f\u00fcr Codein!<span class=\"s1\">Being encouraged to lie down and drag your foot up and down the bed to bend your knee is soul destroying \u2013 imagine having taken part in indoor cycling and running marathons for the last 12 years, to<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>only be able to bend your leg to 10 degrees\u2026 I never thought for one second I\u2019d be back on the bike within 6 months &#8211; and given I couldn\u2019t lie down properly either because of the cumbersome leg brace (which I had to wear 24 hours a day!), my back injury from the car accident also started to play up &#8211; thank goodness for codeine!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Die Physiotherapie war langsam \u2013 und wer wei\u00df, in welchem \u200b\u200bStadium ich mich jetzt bef\u00e4nde, wenn es nicht meine Privatphysiotherapeutin gegeben h\u00e4tte, aber sie ermutigte mich, wieder (sanft) mit der Nutzung von Fitnessger\u00e4ten zu beginnen, und ein Freund lieh mir ein altes Heimtrainer, um die Bewegung in meinem Knie wiederherzustellen.  An diesem Punkt wusste ich, dass ich so schnell wie m\u00f6glich wieder richtig im Sattel sitzen wollte! Mein Berater (im Alter von 4 Monaten) erlaubte mir, Pilates- und Yoga-Sitzungen zu machen, um meinen Kern zu st\u00e4rken, riet mir jedoch von Ausfallschritten, Kniebeugen und allem ab, was zu viel Gewicht bedeutete.<span class=\"s1\">Physio was slow \u2013 and if it hadn\u2019t been for my private physio, who knows what stage I\u2019d be at right now &#8211; but she encouraged me to start using gym equipment (gently) again and a friend lent me an old exercise bike to get the movement back in my knee.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was at this point I knew I wanted to be back in the saddle properly as quickly as I could! My consultant (at 4 months) allowed me to do pilates and yoga sessions to strengthen my core but discouraged lunges, squats and anything too weight bearing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte ich immer noch so gut wie keine Muskeln in meinem Oberschenkel und meine Beine sahen so seltsam aus \u2013 der Unterschied in meinen Oberschenkelmuskeln war urkomisch \u2013 einer sah aus, als geh\u00f6rte er mir, der andere sah aus, als geh\u00f6rte er einer 100 Jahre alten Dame \u2013 aber ich war entschlossen und harte Arbeit brachte mich an den Punkt, an dem ich das Gef\u00fchl hatte, ich k\u00f6nnte wieder eine leichte Indoor-Cycling-Session schaffen \u2013 aber mit wem und wie sollte ich teilnehmen, wenn die Fitnessstudios noch geschlossen waren?<span class=\"s1\">At this point I still had next to no muscle in my thigh and my legs looked so odd &#8211; the difference in my thigh muscles was hilarious &#8211; one looked like it<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>belonged to me, the other looked like it belonged on a 100 year old lady &#8211; but I<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0was determined though, and hard work got me to the point that I felt I could manage a light indoor cycling session again \u2013 but with who and how to take part when the gyms were still closed? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Zun\u00e4chst einmal brauchte ich ein Fahrrad, zumindest mit einem beschwerten Rad. Das gute alte Groupon und seine beharrlichen E-Mails zur Rettung. Da ich im Laufe der Jahre an den Kursen von Darren (Gr\u00fcnder von CicloZone) teilgenommen habe, habe ich in meinem Facebook-Newsfeed gesehen, wie CicloZone-Updates erschienen, und war neugierig \u2026 K\u00f6nnte das die Antwort sein, nach der ich gesucht habe? Nun, hier bin ich und freue mich darauf, meine Erfahrungen in den kommenden Wochen mit Ihnen zu teilen. Ich bin jetzt mehr als bereit, wieder in die Zone einzusteigen \u2026!<span class=\"s1\">First off, I needed a bike, with a weighted wheel at least. Having been a participant in Darren\u2019s classes (founder of CicloZone) over the years, I\u2019d seen CicloZone updates appear on my Facebook news feed and was intrigued\u2026 could this be the answer I was looking for? Well here I am, and I&#8217;m looking forward to sharing my experiences with you over the coming weeks.
